Every year, the Canadian Minister of Immigration tables the multi-year immigration levels plan, which sets targets for different categories of immigration in the coming years. For the first time in recent times, the government plans to reduce the number of new permanent residents it will welcome over the next three years.
Here are the details and what you need to know.
The immigration levels plan for 2025-2027 as announced by the Immigration Minister today:
- 2025: 395,000 new permanent residents
- 2026: 380,000 new permanent residents
- 2027: 365,000 new permanent residents
Compared to last year’s plan, Canada is:
- reducing from 500,000 permanent residents to 395,000 in 2025
- reducing from 500,000 permanent residents to 380,000 in 2026
- setting a target of 365,000 permanent residents in 2027
The Levels Plan also supports efforts to reduce temporary resident volumes to 5% of Canada’s population by the end of 2026.
